The Right Food to Boost Your Mood

A question I like to ask everyone, and genuinely judge them for, is if they ‘live to eat’ or ‘eat to live’?

Food for thought: Our world literally revolves around food.  One usually ends up thinking about food ALL DAY, and if you’re someone like me, it starts from waiting for lunch while  having breakfast, and indulging in a range of snacking between these two meals as well.  Food is our one common ground, a universal experience, and something EVERYBODY craves. So here is a list of foods that are appetising, healthy, and great for your mind and body.

  1. Berries: Berries include blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, Acai berries, cranberries, and grapes. ANY berry is good for your body. They are extremely low in calories, high in fibre, antioxidants, and Vitamin C, and if you have a sweet tooth like me, this is the perfect way to curb your sweet cravings. Berries also help reduce stress so it might just be the perfect snack to binge on when you’re stressing out!
  1. Beans: Beans are high in magnesium and have multiple properties that can help you calm yourself, alongside being yummy as hell. Beans and toast have become a breakfast staple for today’s generation. It’s the easiest go-to food to make.
  1. Dark Chocolate: I understand that not everyone might have a penchant for dark chocolate, but with all of its fibre and proteins, dark chocolates encourage a positive stimulus in your body which I highly recommend.. If it’s too bitter for you, a combination of berries with small pieces of dark chocolate will improve the taste significantly whilst being healthy. You’ll thank me later.
  1. Herbal teas: Personally, I’m not very fond of teas, however camomile tea, green tea, and all their cousins calm your nerves significantly. I used to have a cup of hot tea on sleepless nights and it always helped!.
  1. Leafy greens: There’s a reason we’ve all been coursed into eating green veggies ever since we were little kids. It’s because they’re packed with nutrient-rich minerals with extremely low calories and result in many health benefits. If you don’t prefer eating them, just pick every single green veggie you can spot in the supermarket and make a smoothie out of it.
  1. Whole fruits: Consuming fruits, unsurprisingly, is the best thing you can do for your body. They are filling, tasty, and extremely healthy since they contain very low or no fat, sodium, and/or calories.
  1. Avocados: They have shot to fame in the past few years and I’ve definitely caved into the trend of Avacado toasts and Guacamole. how can one not? It is extremely so delicious and super healthy. The flavour it adds to all Mexican food has me absolutely addicted to it.
  1. Eggs: Eggs are a healthier replacement of potatoes for me. Eat them in any form or shape and they will still taste so damn good and help me stay on track with my fitness routine. Egg yolks are full of antioxidants that work on keeping your body healthy and also protect your skin from UV ray damage.
  1. Yogurt: They’re high in protein, calcium, and vitamins and I literally use it as an alternative to ice cream when I’m keeping up with a healthy diet. It is good for your gut and are a great summer snack.
  1. Ezekiel bread: If you love bread with every meal this is the one to go for. It is the healthiest bread you can buy and even though it isn’t that famous it tastes so good.

These are just some of the many healthy food items that you can add to your diet. I personally don’t believe in diets that aid weight loss/weight gain. I instead prefer diets that help keep your mind and soul fit which is something that everyone should work on regardless of the number on your weighing scale.
